The millivolt valve system does not use electricity, but it does have a standing pilot that allows operation with hi-low heat and flame control during a power outage. The electronic intermittent pilot ignition employs an electrode to ignite the pilot. When the appliance is not in use, the IPI system guarantees that the pilot flame extends across the burner for rapid activation, and it saves energy.
